Prehistoric and Roman, revolutionary and cosmopolitan, seafaring and festive. Gijón is a city that captivates from the very first moment.

The Romans fell in love with Gijón. By the Cantabrian Sea, in Campo Valdés, they built their thermal baths. Over time the city grew into a major urban centre, visible from the Cerro de Santa Catalina hill where Eduardo Chillida placed his Elogio del Horizonte — today the city's most iconic landmark.

Cimadevilla, the old fishermen's quarter, the Queen's gardens, the marina, Playa de San Lorenzo, Calle Corrida and the Plaza del Instituto make up an urban Gijón surrounded by privileged natural scenery.
